Chicago Birthworks Collective is a maternal wellness company rooted on the Southside of Chicago that provides full-circle doula care to Chicago birthing people and their families. Our passion lies in supporting BIPOC families during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and empowering them to advocate for themselves throughout pregnancy and beyond. Parenthood is an incredible journey that our team is honored to witness and guide you through. We are proud to serve families in the Chicago community by providing the proper comfort, care and support you need to bring new life into this world while protecting and preserving yours.
What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides an expecting mother and family with
full-circle care, including prenatal visits, support throughout labor, postpartum care and assistance with breastfeeding. Doulas do more than just help with the physical aspects of childbirth — they are there for the spiritual, emotional and mental aspects of your entire pregnancy journey. Whatever you have in mind for your birthing process, whether traditional, home birth or something in between, a doula can create a custom birth plan that fits you.
What Do Chicago Birthworks Collective Doulas Do?
Chicago Birthworks Collective doulas help Black mothers and families with their physical, emotional and mental needs throughout pregnancy and beyond.
A hospital can be a new place to navigate, taking you out of your comfort zone, and a doula can help fill in the gaps to make you feel confident and safe wherever you are. Chicago Birthworks Collective doulas are not limited to Chicago hospitals. We can support you at home, or birth center during early and active labor or throughout your entire out of hospital experience. Our doulas can also go to your Chicago area home and assist you during postpartum and breastfeeding. We’re equipped to assist with lactation support, postpartum well-being, mental health and everything in between to support better maternal outcomes.

How Much Does a Doula Cost?
We know that expecting mamas and birthing people are concerned about the cost of childbirth, but doula support is an important investment for bettering birth outcomes. Our doula services are curated to fit your needs and budget — we want your pregnancy and birthing experience to be powerful, rewarding and positive (with LOTS of pampering thrown in). Our full-service birth packages start at $1,750 and range up to $2,750. These packages cover the highest care and support for your birth and postpartum journey.
We also offer a variety of in person maternal wellness services, classes and events at our studio in Hyde Park. In some cases, our services can be submitted and approved for reimbursement through medical insurance, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider to see if any services may be covered.
What are the Benefits of Having a Doula?
Studies have shown that having a doula improves the labor and delivery experience, especially for women of color and birthing people who face challenges of bias and racism when interacting with doctors in medical settings.
